ABOUT ME
Hello there!
I'm Lauren Johns and I'm a Photographer in Urbana, Ohio.
I grew up in a really small village north of Urbana. I thought living in such a small town wasn't the life I wanted to pursue. So after High School, I decided to adventure out of the small town life and join the big city. I lived in the Cincinnati area for about a year when I realized that I wanted to be a little closer to home and a little less city girl. I transferred to Wittenberg University where I graduated with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts and a concentration of Photography. I spent my 4 years at Wittenberg following my dream to be a photographer and my love of a Cross Country runner. When I love something, I go after it.
Pursuing my love for photography started when I lost my father at age 12. He showed me the love and importance of capturing the life around us. There wasn't an event or a holiday where he didn't have a camera around his neck. The photographs I have left of him are what I have left of his life on this world. He still lives within those photos and that's why I believe being a photographer is so important to me. It shows how one photograph can bring that moment back to life. One photo may not be important now, but later down the road it will mean the world to someone.
When I received my first cell phone at age 13, I would take pictures of all the scenery around me. Once my father passed, I spent a lot of my time outside sitting on this one perfect swing, or sitting by a pond thinking about my life and future. Once my mother noticed my love for photography growing she decided to get me a camera. That was where the real fun began. I never left the house without that thing. I took pictures of everything I could get my hands on. I was always playing with different settings, or fun effects. It wasn't till I was about 18 where I was able to get a DSLR and learn all advanced ways of photography. From there, I have been learning and experimenting new ways of my love for photography.
People ask me "What is your favorite thing to capture?" I never really have a for sure answer because I find a new love of subject every time I'm out with my camera. One day it can be Nature, Engagements, Senior Portraits, or Family portraits. What I think may be my favorite now, may change down the road. Those subjects are still important because they are capturing those memories for your clients and yourself. You are learning who they are while learning who you are behind the mirror. No matter the photo subject, it will always be an importance to me and my client.
I've always been an advocate for doing what you makes you happy. So I knew after high school I was going to become something I was passionate about.
"Always follow your heart"
